Faculty-In-Residence
As Faculty-in-Residence for Power of Place Learning Communities, Bryan combines his background as a K-12 teacher, teacher educator, and practitioner-scholar. Bryan supports the education programming for Power of Place, building continuity between learning experiences and applications to practice in school contexts. He is also available to work directly with schools on a variety of initiatives, such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and restorative disciplinary practices. Bryan recognizes school communities, teachers, and learners as interconnected parts of an ecosystem who can work together to maximize growth and learning that benefits all – and he is excited to support them in those efforts.
Bryan taught in a variety of ‘alternative education’ settings that served students and families who have faced significant struggles. After more than a decade as a K12 classroom teacher, he moved into higher education preparing equity-oriented teachers and supporting schools who aim to nurture the growth and learning of every student. His research and public scholarship has focused on these same themes, and his work in the New England Education Research Organization (NEERO) has focused on bridging the gap between research and practice.
Bryan has degrees in Adult Education, Special Education, Educational Leadership and Administration, Mind Brain and Education, and completed his doctorate at Harvard Graduate School of Education in Human Development and Education. Bryan grew up and taught primarily in New Hampshire, and still lives there with his wife.
