SUMMARY:PoP Book Club: If You Only Knew
DESCRIPTION:Join our Book Club visit from “If You Only Knew” Author Emily Francis\nThis summer we are encouraging educators across Massachusetts to join us in a community read of If You Only Knew\, by Emily Francis.  This book features a collection of letters from a ML/ESOL teacher to her students\, and has been hailed for its “connection\, concern\, and vulnerability” on every page. \nDuring July\, we hosted 2 book club meetings to discuss the book\, and invited participants to draft and share their own “Connecting Stories\,” similar to the letters that comprise  the book.  On August 13 we will be joined by author Emily Francis\, who will share her experience and answer our questions. \nWe welcome you to join us – even if you weren’t a part of our previous discussions or have not yet read the book. SUMMARY:What Comes Next? Making Meaning of the Reimagining High School Report
DESCRIPTION:What could the Massachusetts Statewide Graduation Council’s recent Reimagining High School report mean for the future of secondary education? Will its recommendations require modest changes to our high schools\, or challenge us to rethink the entire student experience? And what support will educators and leaders need to move this work forward? \nJoin Power of Place on September 24 from 4:00–5:15 p.m. on Zoom for a PoP Virtual Roundtable focused on making sense of this report and exploring its potential implications for students\, educators\, schools\, and districts. Participants will engage in discussion and shared learning in both role-alike and mixed groups\, leaving with new ideas\, useful resources\, and greater confidence about how to approach what comes next. This conversation will also help Power of Place understand what kinds of learning\, resources\, and support would be most valuable across our communities and networks as Massachusetts begins to reimagine the high school experience.
